I thought I’d share a typical weekday in my life here in Jeffreys Bay. Let’s hop right into it.

5/6 am: I am usually waking up around this time. Some days I feel the need to get up at 5 and sit with the Lord as the sun comes up, and some days I feel the need to get up a little later like 6.

6:30 am: Breakfast! A great time to make my coffee and look out at the gorgeous South African sun beaming onto our back field. We’re usually eating cornflakes or wheatbix.

7:30 am: Leave for ministry. We’ll either find a taxi or take the van that our sweet fried Charlie drives.

7:30am- 2 pm: PRESCHOOL!! YAY!!! We have a pretty organized schedule at Ithemba, but the days also looks different depending on which age group we are serving in. The kids get breakfast, snack, and lunch provided, our team is usually running back and forth to and from the kitchen. It is so sweet to get to serve these kids in this way and also give our sweet kitchen ladies some extra loving. We dance, we learn the days of the week and the shapes, we color, we have recess, we read bible stories. The kids get picked up around 12:30 but by the time we’ve helped clean up and everything the time has gone by fast.

2pm-6pm: This is a big chunk of free time living here has brought me that I am SO grateful to have. Especially with some pretty early mornings finding rest in the afternoon helps so much. This time varies in so many ways. My team often fits team time in this time slot too. Usually this is when I’ll get in a workout, take a nap, spend extra time with the Lord or go to the beach.

6pm: dinner!!!

6pm-10pm ish: After dinner varies on what night of the week it is. I have been taking a bible course with some of my squamates that is Monday and Tuesday from 6:30-9 pm and some Saturdays rom 8am-4pm. So if it is a Monday or Tuesday you can usually find me there during this time. Wednesday nights we have all squad worship. Some nights we do team time after dinner or go to McDonalds (yeah we have one right down the road, what a gift). Or I will just read, spend time with the Lord, watch movies with the squad, or honestly…go to bed really early.

Our days here are really sweet and give a good mix of hard work but also time to sit with the Father and enjoy all that South Africa has to offer.

Bye for now!

  1. I love being able to picture you in your daily life in South Africa! I know those little preschoolers absolutely adore you. The memories that you’re making will be forever in your heart. Keep shining your light! I love you.
