WE MADE IT TO JBAY! 5 days, 4 flights, 7 shuttles, 2 trains, and 1 chicken bus later, we made it to South Africa. And let me tell you…it’s an absolute dream. This place captured my heart the moment we hopped out of the plane in Port Elizabeth.

I live in a big log house on the campus of Global Leadership Academy (GLA) right beside the coast of Jeffreys Bay, South Africa. We live on the campus of GLA’s high school! We have a big rugby field in our backyard with a view of the ocean and 350 high schoolers coming here Monday-Friday. Our house is three stories, the bottom floor has a room that holds 10 girls, as well as our kitchen and eating space with a beautiful big glass window. The second floor is one of my favorites, we have lots of cozy chairs and benches and tables up there. There is a TV and lots of breezy open windows. It’s perfect for playing cards, having worship nights, sitting and journalling, and pretty much anything our squad wants to do as a family. Last but not least, the third floor holds 14 women from 3 different teams. My room is up there where I have a cozy top bunk right next to yet another breezy window. I love our “little” home. It already holds a dear place in my heart.

Ministry here has already impacted me more than ever. I’ve had my eyes swell up with tears and had my cheeks get sore from smiling so much. I am currently serving at a preschool called Ithemba, working as a teachers aid for 5-6 year olds and also helping in the kitchen some as well. Ithemba is a preschool for ages 3-6 and also has a feeding program for these children. Working here has already changed my life. There’s something about the way these kids love us. The way the teachers care for our team so well. The way the women in the kitchen laugh and cook all day long in the heat yet still have the sweetest smiles on their faces. It is a special place with many blogs to come.

Please be praying! Prayers for my team as we serve at this school every day. That the Father would give us energy amidst 5 am wakeups and energetic little kiddos. That the teachers and staff at our school would be blessed abundantly and have deep joy instilled in them amidst long days in the hot classroom. For our time here in South Africa. I love this place with everything in me, I haven’t even been here two weeks and I’ve already seen the Lord do more than I would’ve ever imagined.

Many South Africa blogs to come!

Bye for now,

MG 🙂

  1. Lord, you have prepared a place for MG and her team to serve you. Prepare her heart, strengthen her body and bless her and her team in the little moments of each day. May your smile radiate Your love over them.

  2. I have a mental image of everything you described. It’s beautiful and perfect and was holding a place for you.

  3. IN! AWE! you write with such beautiful words, I can picture the beauty that fills your days.
praying over this squad! fighting for y’all! keep your eyes open to all the small details & whispers from the Holy Spirit. there’s so much more the Father has for you here!!!

  4. I love these details so that I can envision your days and all the beauty that they hold. I can only imagine just how much those kiddos adore you as love on them in your very special way that only you can do. They see your light and want more of it. I know when they’re with you, that they feel so valued, loved, and seen. God has you exactly where He wants you. Keep radiating the light of Jesus and be amazing my sweet girl. I love you.
